UPDATE @ 3:00 PM — Both sides of the 15 freeway have reopened. The no. 4 & no. 5 southbound lanes will remain closed as firefighters continue to work the fire.
UPDATE @ 1:00 PM — The fire has grown to 50 acres with 0% containment. 250 personnel are assigned to the fire including 7 engines, 1 hand crew, 1 dozer, 3 water tenders, and numerous overhead positions.
UPDATE @ 12:15 PM — Both sides of the 15 freeway are closed. NB at the 215 interchange and SB at Oak Hill Road.
UPDATE @ 11:35 AM – Victor Valley Transit Authority bus #15 heading southbound to San Bernardino is standing down at Victorville due to freeway closure.
UPDATE @ 11:28 AM– The fire is now at 20 acres with a moderate rate of spread. Southbound 15 freeway is closed at Highway 138 due to smoke impacting the freeway.
UPDATE @ 11:18 am – The fire is now at 5 acres with a rapid rate of spread and heavy fuels. The southbound 15 freeway remains closed.
CAJON PASS, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A brush fire near the 15/215 interchange has prompted the California Highway Patrol to temporarily shut down the southbound I-15 freeway Wednesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol incident logs, at 10:50 am, a big rig lost a tire that went flying into a tree in the area of Cajon Blvd and Kenwood Avenue in the Cajon Pass.
Per CHP logs, the fire is reported to be a half acre in size and CHP has temporarily closed the southbound 15 freeway at Blue Cut.
Thick black smoke and can be seen from the Victor Valley and San Bernardino.
The fire is a 2nd alarm fire and has been dubbed the Keenbrook fire.
