CALIFORNIA — Governor Newsom just announced that all of California is now going under a mandatory statewide stay at home order that will go into effect tonight.
The Governor estimates that over 50% of CA’s population of 40 million will be infected with coronavirus over the next 8 weeks.
“This is a moment we need to make tough decisions,” Newsom said. “This is a moment where we need some straight talk and we need to tell people the truth: We need to bend the curve in the state of California.”
Newsom said that 500 members of the National Guard will be deployed across California to help with humanitarian efforts including manning food banks.
Those that work in critical sectors should go to work. Grocery stores, pharmacies, banks and more will stay open.
“We need to meet this moment and flatten the curve together,” stated Newsom.
The order asks residents to leave their homes only when necessary. San Francisco and Los Angeles had previously issues stay at home orders as a way to stop the spread of coronavirus.
