Breaking: Brush fire prompts sigalert in Cajon Pass Friday

UPDATE @ 11:53 a.m., the #CoyoteFire is estimated at 2 acres and two lanes of the northbound I-15 Freeway are now closed.

CAJON PASS, Calif ( – Firefighters are responding to a brush fire in the Cajon Pass Friday morning after a car crashed and caught fire.

At 10:54 a.m., CHP received reports of a vehicle fire on the right hand-shoulder on the northbound 15, just north of Cleghorn.

According to CHP logs, an unknown type vehicle crashed into the guardrail, struck a pole, went off the roadway and into the brush where it caught on fire.

The fire spread into the nearby vegetation prompting a full response from San Bernardino County Fire.

Victor Valley News member John Rodriguez shared a photo to the group showing flames climbing up the side of a hill.

The fire is being dubbed the Coyote incident.

A SigAlert was issued at 11:14 a.m., and the no.4 lane will be closed for an unknown duration.
