UPDATE: One lane on NB 15 reopens in the Cajon Pass after pursuit suspect was shot
OAK HILLS, Calif. (VVNG.com) –– Shots were fired on the northbound I-15 freeway in the Cajon Pass at the end of a pursuit involving a suspect connected to an armed robbery in the community of Oak Hills.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s media logs, the robbery was reported at approximately 7:16 PM, on October 14, 2024, in the 6100 block of Outpost Road in the unincorporated area of Hesperia.
Law enforcement officials indicated that the suspect was armed with two handguns.
The pursuit began when the suspect entered the northbound 15 freeway, proceeding through Rancho Cucamonga before reversing direction back onto the northbound lanes. The chase continued until the suspect encountered a spike strip near the scales in Cajon Pass.
Deputies executed a pit maneuver on the northbound 15 north of Highway 138, effectively disabling the suspect’s vehicle in the Cajon Pass.
When the suspect refused to exit the vehicle, a standoff ensued. The individual attempted to evade once more, prompting law enforcement to ram the vehicle and eventually corner it.
At that point, deputies discharged their firearms, striking the suspect multiple times. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly thereafter.
The California Highway Patrol has implemented a hard closure of the northbound 15 freeway at Highway 138, with detours in place for an unspecified duration.
Firefighters from the San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived on scene and confirmed they had one “immediate” patient and that no deputies were injured.
This is an ongoing situation and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
