BARSTOW-(VVNG.com): A 29-year-old Barstow man died Thursday night following a deputy’s attempt to detain him for questioning after seeing him jumping a fence into the parking lot of the El Rancho Motel on Main Street. The deputy, along with a citizen volunteer made contact, but the subject was uncooperative giving the deputy a false name.
When the deputy attempted to handcuff the subject, identified as Nathaniel Harris Pickett he tried to run and a fight ensued. The subject hit the deputy several times in the face and he refused to comply with repeated verbal commands to stop hitting him and move away. The deputy fired his weapon, striking the subject. The deputy was treated at a local hospital for multiple injuries, including broken bones.
