BARSTOW, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A 36-year-old Barstow man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 62-year-old man was shot multiple times during an early morning incident, according to a written statement from the Barstow Police Department.
On Saturday, June 7, 2025, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Barstow Police Dispatch received a call reporting a shooting in the 700 block of South First Avenue. The caller stated that the suspect fled the scene in a silver sedan.
Responding officers found a 62-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Due to the severity of his injuries, the victim was airlifted to a local trauma center, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
Detectives with the Barstow Police Department’s Detective Bureau took over the investigation, processed the scene, interviewed witnesses, and identified Zachary Koger, a 36-year-old Barstow resident, as the suspect. A records check revealed Koger is on active parole with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Detective Andrew Hollister obtained an arrest warrant for Koger for attempted murder under PC 664/187(a). Later that morning, around 8:07 a.m., detectives located Koger’s vehicle near Serrano Avenue and Lenwood Road. Koger was arrested without incident during a traffic stop.
His vehicle was towed to the police department for evidence processing and later stored. Koger was booked into the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Jail in Adelanto.
