Barstow Deputies Recover More Than $123,000 In Stolen Brooks Running Shoes After Train Theft

BARSTOW, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Deputies assisting BNSF Police with an investigation into a suspected train boxcar burglary recovered more than $123,000 worth of Brooks running shoes after locating two abandoned vehicles in the High Desert, authorities said.

The incident was reported on August 22, 2026, in the areas of Ludlow and Daggett along National Trails Highway, according to a written statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

According to the statement, BNSF Police requested assistance from deputies after a train made an emergency stop in the Ludlow area and three vehicles were observed near the train under suspicious circumstances.

While deputies were traveling to Ludlow, they spotted two abandoned vehicles matching the description of the suspected vehicles.

“Deputies inspected the vans, discovering numerous boxes inside each of them,” the Sheriff’s Department said in the written statement. “Upon examination, BNSF Police confirmed the boxes contained were from the boxcar.”

Authorities said the recovered merchandise consisted of Brooks running shoes valued at more than $123,000.

No suspects were identified in the statement, and the investigation remains ongoing.
