(VVNG.com)- Jose (Joe) Leon Pinela III, the 53-year-old Phelan resident, not only broke into his 47-year-old ex-girlfriends place of business, but allegedly shot four to five rounds at her and her two male friends. The motive of the break in and attempted murder is believed by authorities to be that Pinela had recently became aware that his ex-girlfriend had new love interest.

On the night of Monday October 13th at approximately 7:58 p.m., deputies responded to the scene at the 21500 block of Bear Valley road after a call reporting a shooting. Deputies arrived to one person shot in the shoulder and the two others physically uninjured. The male victim was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where he at this time in pain, but in stable condition.
Pinela fled the scene of the shooting attempting to dispose of the gun by putting it under a vehicle in parking lot. According to scanner reports while leaving the suspect had said that he rather die than go to jail. The Sheriff’s searched for him ultimately finding him in a Long Beach parking structure the following evening.
On Thursday, October 16th Pinela was in court via video, to make a plea on charges of attempted murder and robbery. The defendant pleaded not guilty on all counts including special allegations.
Pinela requested and was granted a court appointed attorney. He is ordered to appear to an October 23rd for Pre-preliminary hearing and on October 28th for a Preliminary Hearing.
The suspect is being detained at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, with bail set at $1,000,000.
