Apple Valley Seniors Turn Boots Into Flower Vases For National Plant A Flower Day

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Residents at Whispering Winds of Apple Valley celebrated National Plant a Flower Day by transforming old boots into creative flower vases during a hands-on, eco-friendly craft activity.
The unique project encouraged seniors to repurpose worn footwear into decorative planters, with colorful flowers blooming from the tops of each boot. Participants selected their own flowers and arranged them to reflect their individual styles, resulting in a variety of one-of-a-kind creations.
“We got creative on National Plant a Flower Day and turned boots into flower vases,” said Jeff Gollihar, Executive Director at Whispering Winds of Apple Valley. “Each boot came out different because residents picked their own flowers and arranged them however they wanted. The personality in each one is fantastic.”
The activity combined elements of gardening and sustainability, giving new life to old items while fostering creativity among residents.
Local media are invited to cover the story and speak with community executives about how interactive programming, such as National Plant a Flower Day, supports engagement and creativity for seniors.
