Apple Valley residents can get rid of old tires for free

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. — Residents of Apple Valley can avoid disposal charges by turning in their tires free of charge during Tire Amnesty Day on Feb. 9 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event is open to all residents of Apple Valley. Up to nine passenger car and light truck tires per load are accepted with proof of address. No rims will be accepted and no commercial dealers please.
“We collected 5,400 tires at amnesty day events in 2018,” said Code Enforcement Manager, Guy Eisenbrey. “Used tires are hazardous waste that, when dumped illegally, attract other sorts of illegal dumping activity.”
The cost of the event is covered by Cal-Recycle’s Local Government Waste Tire Amnesty Program and is hosted by the Town of Apple Valley Code Enforcement Department and Burrtec Waste.
Lion’s Park is located on South Outer Highway 18, between Flathead and Dale Evans Parkway.
Additional Tire Amnesty Day events in 2019 are scheduled for the following dates:
- April 13
- June 8
- August 17
- September 21
- December 7
