Apple Valley Police To Target Impaired Drivers During Friday Night DUI Patrols
APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The Apple Valley Police Department will conduct DUI patrols Friday, August 7, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., targeting drivers suspected of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
According to a written statement from the Apple Valley Police Department, officers will be looking for drivers showing signs of impairment.
“Impaired driving is preventable,” Deputy D. McCarter said. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”
Police reminded motorists that impaired driving can involve substances other than alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with a person’s ability to drive, and motorists are encouraged to follow usage directions and read warning labels.
The department also noted that while medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal in California, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.
Drivers arrested and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver’s license, according to the department.
Funding for the patrols was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
