APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The Apple Valley Police Department will conduct DUI patrols on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., targeting drivers suspected of driving under the influence.
The patrols are part of an ongoing effort to improve roadway safety and reduce impaired driving throughout the community.
“Designating a sober driver is a simple choice that can save your life and the lives of others on the road,” Deputy D. McCarter said in a written statement. “Drunk driving is one hundred percent preventable. We’re asking everyone to think of your loved ones, friends and family before getting behind the wheel. Make a plan to get home safely.”
The department reminded residents that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol. According to the written statement, some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving ability, and motorists are urged to follow directions for use and read warning labels carefully. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal in California, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.
Drivers arrested and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver’s license.
Funding for the patrols was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
