BARSTOW, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A 51-year-old suspect wanted for murder in Apple Valley is in critical condition after shooting himself in the head during a carjacking in Barstow.
On January 30, 2024, at about 12:17 am, a devastating scene unfolded inside the Los Ranchos Mobile Home Park located in the 20600 block of Waalew Road that left one woman dead and another in stable condition.
Deputies were called to the location following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered 40-year-old Sommer Kelly with multiple fatal gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 18-year-old daughter, also shot multiple times, was rushed to the hospital where she is currently listed in stable condition.
As the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail took over the inquiry, evidence pointed to Clint Edward Griffith, as the primary suspect. Griffith eluded capture at the scene, spurring law enforcement to issue an arrest warrant in his name.
On Sunday, February 4, 2024, Griffith was implicated as the suspect in a carjacking incident in Barstow. Amidst the crime, Griffith inflicted a gunshot wound to his head, which resulted in him being in a critical state in the hospital.
Amidst the ongoing investigation, the community has gathered to support the bereaved family. Sommer Kelly was a devoted mother, leaving behind four children, including one who is autistic.
