Apple Valley Man Killed After Slamming Into Semi ID’d

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. ( Authorities have identified the man killed in an early Saturday morning crash as 46-year-old Phillip Kain, a resident of Apple Valley.

Kain was killed after his 1999 Ford Taurus slammed into the back of a 2012 Freightliner tractor-trailer.

On June 17, 2017, at approximately 4:42 a.m. deputies responded to Bear Valley Road west of Reata Road in Apple Valley reference a two-vehicle collision.

Based on the investigation, authorities determined Kain was traveling east on Bear Valley Road when for reasons still unknown, he collided with the rear of the semi-registered to De Leon Trucking, a company based out of Hesperia.

Kain suffered fatal injuries from the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene, authorities said. The driver of the Freightliner, a 54-year-old Victorville man sustained no injuries in the crash.

“It is unknown if there are any contributing factors to the collision, such as distracted driving, medical conditions, and or alcohol/drug impairment,” stated sheriff’s officials in a press release.

“As in any vehicle collision investigation conducted by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Department, these factors will be looked into.”
