Apple Valley Man Falls Into 15-Foot Sinkhole (Video)

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com)- A 47-year-old Apple Valley man is lucky to walk away uninjured after falling into a 15-foot deep sinkhole Wednesday afternoon.
At about 4:00 p.m., Scott Shay walked out his front door towards his mailbox. As Shay returned back to his home he suddenly found himself at the bottom of a 15 feet deep and 3 feet wide sinkhole in his front yard.
Shay’s wife witnessed the incident and called for help.
Apple Valley Fire Protection District arrived and prepared to rescue the man. Firefighters were able to remove Shay from the hole at about 5:00 p.m.
According to the AVFPD Chief Sid Hultquist, the sinkhole was an old septic system leach pit and the recent rains may have contributed to the sinkhole.
Shay was not injured and after the rescue, he posed for a photo with the heroes who helped rescue him.
