Annual Fireworks Enforcement Operation Results In 32 Arrests And 7.5 Tons Of Illegal Fireworks Seized

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A three-month countywide enforcement operation targeting illegal fireworks resulted in 32 arrests and the seizure of more than 7.5 tons of dangerous fireworks, according to a written statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

The operation was conducted from April through June 2026 by deputies assigned to the Sheriff’s Department Specialized Enforcement Division and members of the Arson/Bomb Detail in partnership with arson investigators from the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

During the enforcement effort, investigators arrested 32 individuals for possessing dangerous illegal fireworks and confiscated more than 7.5 tons of prohibited fireworks before they could be sold or used throughout San Bernardino County, according to the written statement.

Officials said illegal fireworks pose a significant threat to public safety and can cause residential and wildland fires, serious burn injuries, permanent vision loss and extensive property damage. The danger increases during Southern California’s hot, dry summer months when a single ignition source can quickly develop into a fast-moving wildfire that threatens homes, businesses and lives.

The Sheriff’s Department said the annual enforcement operation is conducted each year in partnership with the San Bernardino County Fire Department ahead of and during the Independence Day holiday season to reduce fireworks-related fires, prevent injuries and protect communities throughout the county.

“By removing dangerous fireworks from circulation and holding violators accountable, investigators help lessen the burden on first responders while improving public safety during one of the busiest times of the year,” according to the written statement.

The Sheriff’s Department reminded residents that the possession, transportation, sale or use of dangerous fireworks is illegal and may result in criminal charges, substantial fines and the seizure of fireworks.
