Adelanto seeks to strengthen ties with South Korea

ADELANTO, Calif. (VVNG.com) — According to Adelanto Mayor Richard Kerr the City of Adelanto desires to have a mutually productive and positive relationship with the Nation of South Korea and in the process, support President Donald Trump’s desire to create industrial jobs.

Kerr cited that jobs and investments are coming to the City of Adelanto as evidenced by South Korean-American Aircore Cookware’s $45 million dollar investment creating 250 full-time jobs.

Mayor Richard Kerr recently led a city contingent to meet with Lee Key Cheol, the Consul General of the Nation of South Korea who through his efforts has demonstrated his country’s determination to work continually and cooperatively with the City of Adelanto to create development opportunities.

Kerr said after the visit that “the City of Adelanto and Nation of South Korea has and will continue to strengthen its partnership for the mutual benefit of both South Korea and the United States, and in the process set an example of diplomatic cooperation.”

One thing discussed was a creating a sister city relationship in South Korea such as Osan, Busan, Pohang.

“We are waiting to hear from Consul General on which might be the best fit,” said Kerr.

Adelanto man asleep in Del Taco drive-thru arrested on weapon and drug violations

After responding to a medical aid call, deputies arrested Leon Earl for weapon and narcotics violations

ADELANTO, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Authorities arrested a previously convicted felon after they found him passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle at a fast-food restaurant, officials said.

It happened on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at about 1:00 AM at the Del Taco on Highway 395, near Palmdale Road in Adelanto.

Deputies Mora and Lopez from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station responded and located the suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Leon Earl, a resident of Adelanto, in the drive-through, asleep, and foaming at the mouth.

Officials said Leon appeared to be in distress and was woken by deputies to have him checked out by medical personnel.

“During the investigation, deputies searched his vehicle and located a loaded Glock handgun, high capacity magazine and a large amount of cash,” stated a sheriff’s news release. “Leon was found to be an ex-felon who is a documented gang member.”

Leon was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center for the weapons violations. 

Deputy Mora authored a search warrant for his residence which was served later the same day. “During the execution of the warrant, deputies located narcotics for sale including suspected cocaine, packaging, scales, ammunition and an additional high capacity drum magazine were located,” stated authorities.

It was also discovered Leon was a wanted person by Corona Police for Assault with a Deadly Weapon with great bodily injury. Leon had bailed out of custody for the weapon violation but was arrested by Corona Police at the jail.

Adelanto man arrested for alleged child abuse of 3-month-old

ADELANTO, Calif. (VVNG.com) — An Adelanto man is facing child abuse charges after detectives say he caused multiple injuries to a 3-month old.

25-year-old Jose Aragon, was arrested at his home in the 10500 block of Florence Court in the city of Adelanto and charged with PC 273a(a)- Willful Cruelty to a Child on Tuesday, July 21st.

According to a sheriff’s news release, detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Specialized Investigations Division, Crimes Against Children (CAC) Detail were notified of a three-month-old victim who was admitted to Victor Valley Hospital with multiple injuries. 

Through the investigation, detectives learned the victim was in the care of Jose Aragon, and while under his care, the victim sustained multiple injuries consistent with child abuse caused by Aragon, officials said.

The suspect was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino and is currently being held in lieu of $100,000 bond. Officials said the case will be submitted to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office for review.

Monday night rollover crash in Adelanto claims life of 47-year-old man from Coalinga

ADELANTO, Calif. (VVNG.com) —  A Monday night rollover crash in Adelanto claimed the life of a 47-year-old man from Coalinga, CA.

It happened at about 10:55 PM on July 13, 2020, in the area of Bellflower Street near Pansy Road in Adelanto.

San Bernardino County Fire responded to the incident and located a 2008 Ford Pickup truck approximately 30-50 feet off the roadway. The driver was trapped in the mangled wreck and required major extrication.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lora Way told VVNG the pickup truck was traveling northbound on Bellflower, north of Pansy when it collided with the dirt embankment and rolled several times into the vacant field.

Way said the male was extricated and transported to Victor Valley Global Medical Center where he passed away. The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle.

The identity of the deceased male will be released by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office pending notification of next of kin.
