BARSTOW, Calif. (VVNG.com) A 24-year-old Adelanto man is in custody after robbing a Dollar General store in Barstow, authorities said.
The incident happened at approximately 3:45 pm, on June 28, 2017, in the 300 block of East Main Street.
Officers with the Barstow Police Department were dispatched to the business regarding a robbery in progress.
“The caller, a store employee stated that a Black male adult wearing a gray long sleeve sweatshirt and dark colored pants fled from the store with several store items and was now running west towards Rosita’s restaurant,” stated a press release.
Officers located male matching the suspect description at the corner of Nancy Street and Avenue “A”.
The male, who was identified as Dorsey Purify Jr., was detained pending further investigation.
A records check of Purify was conducted through dispatch and it was determined that Purify was on active probation for robbery in Los Angeles County. A search of Purify was conducted and as a result, several food items were located in Purify’s waistband.
“Through the investigation, Officer Walker was able to determine that Purify entered the store and began removing items from the shelf. Purify placed the items inside his waistband and walked toward the exit doors passing all open cash registers. When Purify attempted to exit the store, a store employee saw the items in his waistband and demanded that the items be returned. Purify physically assaulted the employee and then threatened to harm other employees if they attempted to intercede further,” stated the release.
Video footage of the incident was captured on the store surveillance camera. Purify was positively identified as the male who robbed the store.
Purify was arrested and transported to the Barstow Police Department for further questioning. The stolen items were itemized and returned to the store.
Purify was subsequently booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Jail in Barstow for a violation of Penal Code 211- Robbery.
