CAJON PASS, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A traffic accident that caused a vehicle to go over the side of the southbound I-15 freeway, also resulted in significant traffic delays.
The incident initially reported at 9:15 am, on February 10, 2024, involved a rear-end collision, where a white Mercedes sedan struck the back of a Ford pick-up truck, just south of Oak Hill Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol incident logs, the Mercedes sedan went into the center divider, and over the side, resulting in visible smoke.
Emergency responders with San Bernardino County Fire responded to the incident and reported the vehicle was down a ravine with two people still inside. Firefighters hiked down to the vehicle and assisted the occupants back up to the freeway.
Both of the occupants were transported by ground ambulances with non-life-threatening injuries.
CHP emphasized the need for a tow truck equipped with approximately 200 feet of cable.
Southbound traffic on the I-15 was bumper-to-bumper for several miles through the City of Hesperia.
Motorists traveling in the opposite direction along the northbound I-15 freeway can expect significant delays through the Cajon Pass. Traffic is gridlocked between the 15/215 interchange and Highway 138.
