BAKER, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office has identified a young woman who lost her life in a traffic accident on the I-15 near Baker.
Bethany Garcia, a 21-year-old resident of Henderson, NV, was involved in the incident early on October 26, 2024.
California Highway Patrol officers from the Barstow area were dispatched to the scene around 1:40 AM following reports of a crash that required an ambulance. Upon arrival, they found Garcia driving a 2016 Toyota Scion with a 21-year-old male occupant from Las Vegas, NV.
The investigation revealed that Garcia was traveling northbound on Interstate 15 when, for reasons still being examined, she allowed the vehicle to veer toward the right shoulder.
The Toyota then crossed over the shoulder and rolled down a dirt embankment, continuing out of control in a northeasterly direction before landing on its wheels in the open desert, east of the freeway.
During the rollover, Garcia was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. The male passenger suffered minor injuries but declined medical assistance.
At this stage of the investigation, authorities do not believe that alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
The crash is currently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Barstow Area. If you have additional information regarding this crash, please contact Officer L. Roberson at the California Highway Patrol Barstow Area office at (760) 255-5900.
