A Change Has Come

Long time Victor Valley resident Bruce McGhee, shared the following today via the popular Facebook group V V N G.

This is Dennis…

Lively veteran of WW 2

He “Fought the Germans”

Came from a family of 4 brothers and three sisters…

Three brothers were Marines.

As he was sharing his life with me, he told me about his brother landing on Guada Canal…

“He said that American and Allies were killed and wounded in groups…

They waded through Americas dead only to be killed by “The Japs”…

” They were thicker than piss ants” in his southern drawl…

I thanked him for his service..

His reply…

“Happy to do it”…

Then came the surprise…

He was a native of Golf Port Mississippi…

And here we stood talking…

Two Veteran’s of two different wars…

Sharing stories…

This was impossible back in the day where both of us were from, especially in our day and time as boys…

I love our great country…

Never take our freedom for granted…

When I asked if I could take his picture and let the world know that he existed, he smiled and said…

“That would make me happy”.

Thank you Mr Dennis Farris…

He wanted us to know that he’s 89 years old and still kicking…

Brought joy and pride to my heart to talk to this soldier of a time nearly forgotten…

84th Cavalry…

US Army…

America stands free because of you and your brothers sacrifice…

If you see him around town, say hello…
