93-year-old woman killed in crash on I-40 near Ludlow

LUDLOW, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A 93-year-old woman from Alta Loma died as a result of injuries sustained in a rollover traffic accident on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

It happened at about 3:32 pm, on January, 10, 2019, on the westbound I-40 at mile marker 65 near Ludlow.

According to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office, the driver of a 2015 Toyota Rav4 failed to negotiate a curve, entered the center divider and struck several large rocks.

Scanner traffic reported the vehicle rolled over an unknown amount of times and CPR was in progress on one of the occupants.

First responders requested County Fire helicopter H325 to respond and land at the scene. California Highway Patrol officers assisted with temporarily shutting down the highway.

The passenger, 93-year-old Betty Stofa was pronounced dead at the scene, coroner officials confirmed.

A male, reported to be in his 70’s was airlifted from the scene to Loma Linda University Medical Center, his condition remains unknown.

The Barstow office of the California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
