5 injured in crash on Nisqualli Road in Victorville

UPDATE 9/5/18 — On September 5, 2018, Vernell Thompson pleaded no contest to the charges of Assault By Means Of Force Likely to Produce Great Bodily Injury, and Assault With Deadly Weapon not Firearm or Force. Judge Tony Rafael sentenced him to 3 years in State Prison on each charge, to be served concurrently. This conviction will count as ONE STRIKE. Credit was given for 68 days time served, and 68 days conduct credit. The balance of the sentence to be served at a credit rate of 50%.

UPDATE: On June 30, 2018, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Nisqualli Road and 11th Avenue. Multiple callers reported a man fighting with others at the collision.

Upon investigation, it was discovered a female traveling east on Nisqualli, in a Chevy Tracker, failed to stop at the red light at the intersection and collided with a female traveling south on 11th, in a Chrysler Town and Country. Vernell Thompson, the fiancé of the driver of the Chrysler, witnessed the collision. Thompson approached the Chevy and opened the driver’s door. He demanded the driver pay for the damages. He then assaulted her and attempted to grab her purse and pull her out of the vehicle. The victim was still wearing her seat belt, making Thompsons efforts unsuccessful. A husband and wife passing by stopped at the collision and offered to help. Thompson assaulted the good Samaritans hitting them both with his fists. As a result of being hit, the female victim fell and broke her arm.

Thompson fled and was found in a nearby neighborhood, where he was taken into custody. He was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for Robbery and Assault with a Deadly Weapon. On June 30, 2018, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Nisqualli Road and 11th Avenue. VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) Five people were injured following a two-vehicle traffic collision on Nisqualli Road here Saturday night.

It happened at about 9:15 p.m. and involved a compact SUV and a minivan at the intersection of Nisqualli Road and 11th Avenue.

At least one person was detained at the scene, his involvement in the collision and reason for being detained was not immediately known.

Nisqualli Road was temporally closed between Balsam and 11th Avenue while authorities investigated and first responders treated the injured.
