UPDATE 1/28 @ 6:30 AM – The San Bernardino Coroner’s office has identified the deceased as Cesar Gonzalez, a 40-year-old resident of Adelanto. Gonzalez was taken to the Barstow Community Hospital, where he was declared dead at 5:27 AM.
BARSTOW, Calif. (VVNG.com)- A 40-year-old man was killed in an early morning traffic collision along the I-15 freeway Friday.
At 3:15 a.m., officers with the California Highway Patrol responded to single vehicle traffic collision along the northbound I-15 near Outlet Center Drive.
A 2016 Nissan Altima was traveling at 70 mph when for unknown reasons the driver allowed the vehicle to drift from the no.2 lane onto the right shoulder, traversed a drainage culvert and subsequently became airborne, stated a CHP press release.
While the vehicle was airborne, it collided into the Outlet Center Drive bridge and landed on its roof.
The driver was transported to Barstow Community Hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.
Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor in this collision.
The collision is currently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Barstow Area.
A very similar collision just minutes before this incident claimed the life of a Victorville man on the northbound I-15 Freeway just north of the Stoddard Wells/Bell Mountain exit.
