VICTORVILLE, Calif. — Three prison guards and one inmate were injured during a fight at the United States Penitentiary in Victorville on Friday.
It happened on October 11, 2019, at about 1:00 pm, when staff observed multiple inmates fighting, prison officials said.
According to a news release about the incident, the staff immediately responded and contained the incident. One inmate sustained injuries requiring outside medical treatment.
“Three staff were treated for minor injuries sustained during [the] response to the incident, and at no time was the public in danger. The inmates were secured in their housing units, and the institution was placed on limited operational status,” stated the release,
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified. Officials said an internal investigation is ongoing and the institution will return to full operational status as soon as possible.
The USP is a high-security facility within the Federal Correction Complex in Victorville, California, which currently houses 1,340 male offenders.
