2 Victorville elementary schools go on lockdown after shots heard

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Multiple reports of shots heard in the area of Puesta del Sol Elementary prompted school officials to place the campus on lockdown Thursday morning.
According to sheriff’s spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez, at 8:35 am, the school contacted dispatch to report shots heard and informed they had gone on lockdown.
Deputies responded to the campus in the 15800 block of Academy Street in Victorville and determined the location of the ‘incident’ to be at a residence and not the school.
“Although the incident is not directly related to our site, we have taken these steps to secure the campus out of an abundance of caution,” stated Victor Elementary School District officials. By 9:30 am, officials had downgraded the lockdown to “Safeguard Status” meaning the campus would remain on heightened security, however, students would be allowed to move around campus with an escort, instruction will proceed as normal. School officials also confirmed Challenger Elementary is also on Safeguard Status, at this time.
By 9:56 am, the sheriff’s department gave the all-clear and the Safeguard Status at Puesta del Sol and Challenger were lifted.
Mara Rodriguez said deputies are in the area and continuing to investigate if any shots were actually fired.
