BAKER, Calif. (VVNG.com) — In the early hours of Friday morning, a traffic accident claimed two lives on the northbound 15 freeway near Baker, resulting in the closure of all lanes.
It happened at about 4:09 am, on Friday, January 19, 2024, north of Highway 127, near mile marker 142.
According to the California Highway Patrol incident logs, the two-vehicle collision involved a white Budget rental truck and an unknown type of vehicle.
The reporting party informed dispatch of a lot of debris across lanes and the vehicle was on fire.
Firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire responded to the scene and reported they had a total of six people involved, two of them were pronounced deceased.
A total of three medical helicopters were requested to airlift three of the critically injured. The designated landing zone for the helicopters was at the scene, prompting CHP to shut down all lanes for a traffic break.
The cause of the accident is being handled by the Barstow CHP station. This is a developing story and additional information will be updated as it becomes available.
