APPLE VALLEY, Calif. ( — A 19-year-old who fled from police during an attempted traffic stop in Apple Valley was arrested after crashing on the I-15 freeway in Victorville.

Sheriff’s officials said an off-duty Sheriff’s employee in an unmarked department vehicle saw a vehicle doing 360 burnouts near the intersection of Wabisi Road and Mondamon Road at about 1:00 am, on January 14, 2024.

“The employee activated lights and sirens and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle drove away from the area at a high rate of speed and the off-duty employee followed and notified Sheriff’s dispatch,” stated a sheriff’s news release.

Deputy E. Mendoza was able to enter the I-15 freeway ahead of the suspect and conducted a traffic break maneuver to slow the vehicle.

The suspect crashed into the center divider of the freeway and was taken into custody without incident near Nisqualli Road.
