BARSTOW: (VVNG.com)- On June 15, 2014, at approximately 2:37 a.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department dispatch received a telephone call from a male stating he was intoxicated and walking along some railroad tracks. As the dispatcher was attempting to get additional information, the sound of a loud horn honking was heard in the background. The call disconnected and there was no other contact with the male.
Deputies from the Barstow Sheriff’s Station were advised of the call and dispatched to conduct an area check near Blackford Avenue in Lenwood. Contact was made with train personnel who confirmed a male subject was just struck by the train. During the search of the area, a body was located along the railroad tracks west of Lenwood Road. The incident is being investigated as a death investigation.
Officers responded and Jose Octavio Espiritu a 16-year-old resident of Barstow was found deceased near the tracks. Railroad police and the San Bernardino County Sheriff departments are also investigating the incident. An autopsy is pending.
