ADELANTO, Calif. — Starting with the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony on November 29, the City of Adelanto is continuing to create a festive holiday mood with the 14th Annual Christmas parade, set for Saturday, December 8 at 10:00 a.m.
Once again the parade, with 46 entries, will start at the corner of Seneca and Aster Roads ending at Desert Trails Elementary School on Bellflower.
This year’s Grand Marshal will be former NFL player Turk McBride, who played six-seasons in the NFL for the Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears.
Another popular annual event this month is the “Handlebars for Christmas Giveaway.” 29 new donated bicycles will be presented at the last City Council meeting for 2018 on December 12. The bike giveaway allowed students enrolled in Adelanto School District grades kindergarten through eighth to receive a “Golden Ticket” each day that they brought a can or box of food donation.
Food items collected and will be used to support Adelanto food banks at High Desert Outreach, Adelanto Community Resource Center and Kicks Kafe.
Finally during the last City Council meeting for 2018 the city’s 48th Anniversary will be celebrated and the new Mayor, Gabriel Reyes will be sworn in along with Council members Gerardo Hernandez and Steveonna Evans. The city was incorporated December 22, 1970 with the first City Council comprised of Rex Bean, William York, Patricia Chamberlaine, Kenneth Murphy, and Gus Ronnebeck.
