1 killed, 2 injured in Christmas Day crash on I-40

BARSTOW, Calif. (VVNG.com) — One person was killed and two others were seriously injured following a rollover crash on Christmas Day near Barstow, officials said.

At about 2:30 pm on December 25, 2019, a 1999 GMC Suburban was traveling eastbound on Interstate 40, west of Kelbaker Road when the driver, a 65-year-old man from Los Angeles, CA lost control of the SUV and rolled.

“During the overturning motion, the male driver suffered major head injuries, and was pronounced deceased on scene by responding medical personnel. A 34-year-old female passenger was transported by ground to Needles hospital with moderate head injuries. A 65-year-old female passenger was airlifted to UMC Las Vegas with lower back injuries,” stated a California Highway Patrol news release.

The identity of the man killed will be released by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.

CHP officials said alcohol and/or drug impairment is not suspected to be a contributing factor in this collision.

UPDATE 12/27 – The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office identified the person killed as Onesimo Cervantes, 65, a resident of Los Angeles.
