ADELANTO, Calif. — Major League Baseball (MLB) kicks off Thursday and fans will be flocking to stadiums throughout the Southland. But why not at Adelanto Stadium? Because the second season for the High Desert Yardbirds is not set to kick-off until Sunday, May 27 at 7:00 p.m.
“We’re excited that the Pecos League Champions will be returning to the High Desert for fans to experience professional baseball close to home,” said Aaron Korn, Adelanto Stadium Manager.
This marks the 27th consecutive year Adelanto will host Professional Baseball in the summer. The Yardbirds will play a spring training game (for the Pecos League, although MLB spring training season has ended) May 19 in Adelanto and will again open the season at California City for two games.
“The Yardbirds and Pecos League is excited to be back in Adelanto for a second year,” said Andrew Dunn, the Pecos League commissioner. “We are extremely happy with the improvements the city has made to the field, and we are proud to call Adelanto home.”
“We think we’ll have another exciting, competitive season as we did last year,” said Korn. The Yardbirds will play 35 home games with the season-ending Thursday, July 26. Although the final roster has not been set, Korn says that the team expects to have local players and coaches. “Tryouts will be held May 19 at Griffith Park in Los Angeles at 9 am.”
Korn says that the team has planned special promotions to encourage fans to attend, including:
• Thirsty Thursdays,
• Taco Tuesdays,
• Wienie Wednesdays, and
• Family Feast Fridays
Tickets go on sale Monday, April 2 with regular season prices $8, $10 for the July 4th Special and season tickets at $225 per seat.
Staffing for the home games has almost been filled with the Pecos League conducting the hiring.
Residents can follow “Adelanto Stadium and Event Center” on Facebook to learn about special promotions during baseball season, and to see other events coming to the stadium. And they can find a calendar of events at adelantostadium.com
