VVNG’s Entertainment News for the 1st Week of April

Don Rickles (1926 – 2017)

Comedy legend, Don Rickles passed away at the age of 90 on April 6th 2017, due to kidney failure. Mr. Rickles was best known as an insult comic but I will always remember him as the voice of Mr. Potato Head in the Toy Story franchise. I, obviously, didn’t know him or his work as well as other people, but he was very loved by the entertainment industry and Jimmy Kimmel did a very heartfelt tribute to Don Rickles that you should check out. It honestly made me want to learn more about Mr. Rickles.

Controversial Pepsi Ad

It seems like Pepsi offended a bunch of people with their new ad starring Kendall Jenner. In it, Kendall is doing a photoshoot while there is a big protest going on. She decides to leave the shoot and join the protest. She grabs a Pepsi and gives it to a cop and then everyone is happy and starts dancing and I guess the message is that Pepsi makes everything better, idk. I saw it and didn’t think much of it but it seems like it displeased more than just coca cola lovers. Pepsi has since taken down the commercial but it still lives on the internet. Here is the infamous commercial that you can watch for yourself and see what you think about it.

Low Ratings for the Season Finale of the Walking Dead

Last Sunday, the Walking Dead ended its 7th season with the lowest ratings it has had in 5 years. I remember when this show came out. It was all anyone talked about. Something important happened on the show and it was all over Facebook and Instagram. Now, I hardly see anyone posting about it. I still like the show but I feel like they should have ended it already or at least announced that they are going to end it so it goes out with a bang instead of fizzling out like it currently is. Are you still watching the Walking Dead? Or have you kind of lost interest in it like I have?

WrestleMania 33

Some of the highlights for this year’s wrestling mega event included: The Hardy Boys returning to the ring, John Cena proposing to Nikki Bella and, the most talked about, the Undertaker retiring after almost 27 years of wrestling and being a fan favorite. He took off his gloves, coat and hat, left them in the middle of the ring, went to kiss/hug his wife and disappeared under the entrance ramp (I am not sure if he is still under there or not). Did you watch the event? What was your favorite part of it?

New Movie Trailers

All Eyez on Me (June 16th 2017)
I don’t know about you, but I am really excited for this flick. Looks like it’s going to be a powerful film about one of the greatest rap artists to ever live.

Synopsis: The true and untold story of prolific rapper, actor, poet and activist Tupac Shakur (Demetrius Shipp Jr.), from his early days in New York to his status as one of the world’s most recognized and influential voices. Against all odds, Shakur’s raw talent, powerful lyrics and revolutionary mindset establish him as a cultural icon whose legacy continues to grow long after his death.

My Little Pony: The Movie (October 6th 2017)
This should get every little girl (and weird dude) excited to see their favorite cute and colorful ponies in their first full length feature film.

Synopsis: In order to stop a threat to the town of Ponyville, the “Mane 6” – Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rarity – embark on a journey beyond their home kingdom of Equestria, meeting new friends and overcoming challenges in the process

This flick’s cast includes Emily Blunt, Sia, Michael Peña, Liev Schreiber, Taye Diggs, Zoe Saldana, Uzo Aduba and Kristin Chenoweth.

Annabelle Creation (August 11th 2017)
I am honestly to scared to watch this trailer so you tell me what you think of it, yeah?

Synopsis: A nun (Stephanie Sigman) and a group of orphans become the target of a doll maker’s possessed creation.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (May 12th 2017)
This trailer got me excited for this flick, it looks like it has loads of action-packed entertainment.

Synopsis: When young Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur (Charlie Hunnam) comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down, and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy whether he likes it or not.

Opening this Week

This week The Fate of the Furious opens in theaters everywhere and I bet it is going to win the box office by more than an inch. I have to admit that the last Fast and Furious movie got too farfetched for me but I am still looking forward to this one. Are you checking this flick out on the weekend?

Retro Flick of the Week

I usually have some friends and family over every week for movie night and we all take turns picking a film. This week it was my wife’s turn and she picked The Wedding Singer. This movie is perfect for you if you are in the mood to feel nostalgic watching a sweet, funny and romantic flick that has lots of cool 80’s music.

The Wedding Singer is rated PG-13 and stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore
