VICTORVILLE-(VVNG.com): A Victorville family, just days after installing a doorbell surveillance camera, caught a UPS package thief on tape. The theft occurred Friday, May 6th at 12:47 p.m. just four minutes after the UPS driver dropped the package off on the porch of the home.
Resident, Hope Modlin told a Victor Valley News that her neighborhood near El Evado Road and Northstar Avenue was a quiet neighborhood until around 4 months ago. In the past four months, she said there have been several vehicle break-ins, at least one other theft, and an attempted to break-in of her home.
The recent rash of crime in her neighborhood caused her and her husband to install the doorbell camera and a camera inside her home just two days ago.
“The doorbell [alarm] alerts mine and my husband’s phone when someone rings the doorbell or when there’s motion,” said Modlin. “The camera then begins to record for a short time after.”
Modlin said that the stolen UPS package contained around $70 of essential oils that unfortunately were not insured. “I’m really glad that I wasn’t home to answer, who knows what could have happened If anyone was home,” said Modlin. Modlin did make a police report and she provided the surveillance footage to the investigating deputy.
