Victorville felon arrested after shooting himself in the hand

BARSTOW, Calif. (VVNG.com) – A 22-year-old convicted felon from Victorville was arrested after he accidentally shot himself in the hand, officials said.

Timothy Pettiway arrived at Barstow Community Hospital just before 9:30 pm, on, January 6, 2018 with a gunshot wound to his left hand and reported he shot himself, stated a Barstow Police Department news release.

Through investigation, officers determined Pettiway was at his girlfriends house in the 550 block of South Muriel Drive, cleaning a firearm.

“While cleaning the firearm Pettiway shot himself in the left hand causing minor injuries, Pettiway then hid the firearm inside the residence and went to the hospital,” officials said.

Officers located the 9mm handgun at the residence and collected it for evidence. Detectives confirmed the weapon belonged to Pettiway, a convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing any firearms.

After Barstow Community Hospital medical stand treated and released Pettiway for his injuries, detectives placed him under arrest and booked him into the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto.
