Victor Valley Gets Wet for Breast Cancer Awareness

VICTOR VALLEY: (VVNG.com) – Christy Greene, the owner of Get Nailed by Christy Greene, recently suffered the loss of two friends to Breast Cancer which helped ignite her passion to fight for awareness and research. Greene was inspired to help raise funds for this great cause through Victorville Cycles, who organizes a yearly Breast Cancer Ride. Their yearly ride, held during October’s, Breast Cancer Awareness month brings many together in the local community, including several local businesses. All of the proceeds from the ride are donated to the The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Greene wanted to do something more, something that can make a difference in the months other than Breast Cancer Awareness month. She decided it might be fun to start an “Ice Water Challenge” beginning with herself, then a few Victor Valley business’ who she then challenged. “The Ice Water or Cold Water Challenge is spreading like wildfire throughout our local business’. I never thought it would grow in this way, it is becoming viral,” said Greene.

Those challenged by a friend or other local business can complete the challenge by either donating $20 and having a bucket of ice water poured over their heads or donating $100. The challenge can take place anywhere including your home or business location, but you must record and upload it to Facebook and/or Youtube to prove you completed the challenge. Several business’ have chosen to not only participate in the ice water portion of the challenge, but also donate $100 or more in order to help the cause. The challenge must be complete within 24 hours of being challenged or to complete the challenge you pay $100. The final step of the challenge is to, in your video, challenge 5-7 more individuals and/or business owners to also complete the challenge. “It has been really fun, some have decided to include their children in the challenge having them dump the water bucket” said Greene.

The challenge has grown rapidly throughout many local business owners and their friends. So many are enjoying this challenge and inviting friends to also become involved, making this not only fun. but a great way to raise funds for breast cancer awareness. Are you up for the challenge? Why not challenge yourself as well as some friends? This is a great way for the community to unite for a great cause.
