Truck hits utility pole, causes power outage in Hesperia

HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) Hundreds of Hesperia residents were left without electricity after a traffic collision damaged a utility pole Wednesday.

At about 4:30 pm., a white work truck and a black sedan crashed at the corner of 11th Avenue and Mesa Street in Hesperia.

The pickup truck stopped after crashing into a wooden utility pole causing the transformer to blow and the pole to lean. The damages prompting a widespread power outage which initially affected 636 Southern California Edison customers.

Edison repair crews are continuing to work extensively into the night and have restored power to all but 234 customers as of 11:00 pm.

According to SCE’s incident map, power is expected to be fully restored by 6:00 am, Thursday.

Two passengers inside the sedan were injured and transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance. Neither driver was injured in the crash.

The Hesperia sheriff’s station is investigating the collision.
