PINON HILLS, Calif. (VVNG.com) Sheriff’s officials identified the suspect in Wednesday’s officer-involved shooting as Harold Gunlogson, 43, a resident of Phelan.
Gunlogson was wanted in Santa Ana for domestic violence, arson, assault with a deadly weapon and was considered to be armed and dangerous, sheriff’s officials said.
On October 18, at 1:42 pm., sheriff’s deputies received a request from the Santa Ana Police Department to check the area of Phelan and Wash Road Gunlogson.
A detective conducting surveillance observed Gunlogson leaving and requested assistance from a marked unit to conduct a traffic stop.
Deputies arrived and attempted a traffic stop, at which time Gunlogson fled. Deputies followed him through a rural area, driving on dirt roads through the desert. In the area of Oasis Road and Daisy Lane, the vehicle became stuck in the sand and was disabled.
“Harold Gunlogson exited the vehicle and immediately opened fire on the pursuing deputy and the deputy returned fire, striking Gunlogson,” officials said.
Gunlogson was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery.
