Suspect flees after deputy fires shots in Phelan

PHELAN, Calif. (VVNG.com) A suspect fled after being fired upon by a deputy Saturday morning.

According to scanner traffic, the deputy opened fire after the suspect, described as a Black male adult, attempted to back into the patrol unit after failing to yield during a routine traffic stop.

The suspect was able to evade deputies which prompted an extensive manhunt.

It was unclear whether the suspect was struck by a bullet during the gunfire.

A portion of Phelan Road was closed for several hours while authorities investigated.

The suspects vehicle is described as a white Ford sedan and was last seen traveling northbound on Sunny Vista Near White Fox Trail.
