ADELANTO, Calif. (VVNG.com) One adult and three children were injured when their vehicle was struck by a semi while waiting at a red light, a witness said.
The crash occurred at 2:15 pm at the intersection of US Highway 395 and Chamberlain Way, and involved a tractor-trailer and a 2005 Toyota Corolla.
Adelanto Mayor Pro Tem Jermaine Wright Sr. was in his vehicle, traveling westbound on Chamberlain when he witnessed the accident.
He told Victor Valley News the Corolla was stopped northbound on Highway 395 waiting to make a left-hand turn onto westbound Chamberlain Way. That’s when he said a semi traveling northbound struck the vehicle, crushing the rear of the car.
Wright said his light changed to green, and he started counting down his 1-2-3 “Mississippi’s” before entering the intersection, something he always does.
As he was counting down, he said he witnessed the semi truck run the red light and hit the Corolla that had three children sitting in the back seat.
“The semi swerved just a little bit, and his back trailer tires took out the back of the car,” stated Wright.
The tractor-trailer came to a stop several hundred feet away from the intersection on the east side of Highway 395.
Five people were inside of the Corolla at the time of the crash. Four occupants, one adult, and three children required transportation to local hospitals. The male driver of the Corolla and the semi driver both declined medical treatment.
An update on the condition of the injured was not available as of Saturday evening.
The official cause of the crash is under investigation and information will be updated as it becomes available.
