Police ID man who barricaded himself in Spring Valley Lake

Ajmer Bassi was arrested for discharge of a firearm and criminal threats

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) Sheriff’s officials identified the man who barricaded himself Monday night as Ajmer Bassi, 53, a resident of Spring Valley Lake.

On Monday at 5:08 p.m., Bassi was standing outside his residence when he started firing his gun into the air multiple times.

Deputies were dispatched to Bassi’s residence in the 13300 block of Alta Vista Drive where he was barricaded inside.

A sheriff’s helicopter assisted ground deputies as they established a perimeter surrounding the residence. The incident caused several homes in the neighborhood to be evacuated.

Officials say Bassi continued to ignore PA announcements advising him to exit the home and SWAT was requested.

“SWAT entered the home at 7:24 p.m. and took Bassi into custody without incident,” sheriff’s officials said.

Ajmer Bassi was booked at West Valley Detention Center for negligent discharge of a firearm and criminal threats. Sheriff’s officials did not elaborate any further on the type of “criminal threats.”

Bassi is being held on $50,000 bail and is scheduled for arraignment on August 23, 2017 in Victorville Superior Court.
