ORO GRANDE, Calif. (VVNG.com) One person was struck and killed by a train here Monday morning.
At about 9:30 a.m., dispatch received reports of a train versus a pedestrian near Riverside Preparatory School on the 19000 block of National Trails Highway.
San Bernardino County Fire along with sheriff’s deputies responded and located a victim near the tracks near 1st and Olive Street in Oro Grande.
The victim, believed to be a male, was pronounced deceased at the scene by firefighters.
A Nissan SUV with a woman sitting in the passenger seat also remained at the scene. Deputies were seen interviewing the woman. It’s unclear what connection if any, the female had with the deceased or if she was just a witness.
According to BNSF officials, the railroad crossing is expected to remain shut down for an unknown duration.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. No further information is available at this time.
