Motorcyclist killed in 15 freeway crash ID’d as Victorville man

OAK HILLS, Calif. (VVNG.com) – The California Highway Patrol identified the motorcyclist killed in Thursday mornings crash as Jonathan Tran, 29, of Victorville.

According to Tran’s Facebook profile, he is a former 15T Blackhawk Crew Chief at the U.S. Army in 2014.

On September 21, 2017, at approximately 5:57 a.m., Tran was riding a 2014 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on I-15, south of Oak Hills Rd., at approximately 65 mph, between the #1 and #2 lanes.

For reasons still under investigation, the rider struck the rear of a 2014 Kia Rio traveling in the #1 lane at approximately 40 mph.

The collision caused the motorcycle to veer right, directly in front of a 2011 Volvo tractor which was traveling in the #3 lane. The Volvo tractor struck the motorcycle and rider.

After the collision, the motorcycle caught fire and became fully engulfed.

The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest in the
#3 lane of I-15.

Emergency personnel arrived on scene and determined the rider of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries.

The accident caused multiple lanes of the freeway to close during the investigation, prompting a SIG ALERT.

The number one, two, and three lanes of the freeway were closed during the investigation. The number four lane remained opened and a Sig-alert was issued.
