ADELANTO, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A stretch of Air Expressway in Adelanto remains closed following a deadly crash that claimed the life of a critical missing teen with autism early Wednesday.
On May 1, 2018, Rudy Gonzalez, a 19-year old Autistic teen from Victorville, was reported missing by his family. Gonzalez was last seen by the family at approximately 1:00 p.m. near his home in the 15400 block of Ferndale Road. Another citizen reported seeing someone matching the description of Gonzalez at approximately 4:00 p.m. walking in the area. Deputies searched for Gonzalez throughout the afternoon and night, with assistance from Sheriff’s Aviation Division and K9 Unit.
At 3:49 a.m., on May 2, 2018, Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call from the driver of a vehicle, who reported he had hit something while traveling on Air Expressway near Adelanto Road and believed it may have been a person. Deputies responded to the scene and confirmed a pedestrian had been struck.
The pedestrian was confirmed to be Rudy Gonzalez.
Gonzalez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at a local hospital. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Adelanto Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is handling the collision investigation.
