Man bitten by rattlesnake while camping in Lake Arrowhead

LAKE ARROWHEAD, Calif. — A Running Springs man was rescued to safety with the assistance of a helicopter after he was bitten by a rattlesnake.

It happened on Saturday, May 19, at Fisherman’s Campground in the mountain community of Lake Arrowhead. At about 3:00 pm, the 46-year-old man and his family were walking near their campsite when he stepped on a rattlesnake. He attempted to get away from the snake to avoid being bit, but was unable to, officials said.

Family immediately called 911 and requested assistance.

Medical personnel were dispatched, along with Sheriff’s Air Rescue 07 since the area is remote and in steep mountain terrain. The crew of Air Rescue 07 arrived and determined a hoist rescue would be required due to the location and injuries.

The victim was hoisted into the helicopter and flown to a nearby trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries.
