K9 Dare and Deputy Girard Locate a Missing 10-year-old Boy

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (VVNG.com)- Deputy K9 Dare and Deputy Girard located a 10-year-old boy missing from Caryn Elementary School.

On January 25, 2017, at approximately 5:45 pm, deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department responded to a report from Caryn Elementary School regarding the report of a missing 10-year-old student. School staff discovered that following school dismissal, the student left campus and did not report home. Law enforcement assistance was immediately requested.

Deputies established a perimeter and began systemic searches. Resources that included Sheriff’s Aviation Division, tracking K9 and several detectives assisted with the investigation and search. Neighborhood notifications of the child’s physical description were broadcasted to the surrounding neighborhoods by Sheriff’s Aviation for community assistance.

At approximately 7:45 pm, Deputy Ryan Girard, and K9 Dare began tracking for the student. A scent article provided by the child’s parents gave Dare the ability to begin tracking for the missing student. Dare tracked for about thirty minutes before identifying a strong scent of the child. At 8:15 pm, Dare located the student behind bushes, asleep and uninjured about a block away from the school. The child was immediately reunited with his parents.
