Homicide Investigation in Highland

On Sunday, September 22, 2013, at approximately 8:40 p.m., deputies from the Highland Police Department responded to a shots fired call in the 25000 block of Baseline Street. Deputies also received information regarding a gunshot victim (WMA – 65 YOA) who was dropped off at a nearby hospital. During the investigation, it was determined the gunshot victim at the hospital was related to the shots fired call on Baseline Street. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a nearby trauma center for additional treatment.

The case was initially investigated by the Highland Police Department gang team and a suspect, Rudy Burdick,45, was identified as a result of the investigation. On December 8, 2013, the victim was pronounced deceased due to complications related to injuries sustained during the shooting incident. The victim is described as a white male, 65 years old – Name withheld pending next of kin.

As a result of the investigation, Burdick was arrested for PC 187 (Murder) and is currently being held at Central Detention Center, in San Bernardino, without bail. The case is currently being investigated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Detail.
