Hesperia man who died after rescuing son from aqueduct Identified

HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) – A father who drowned in the California Aqueduct after jumping in to rescue his son was identified as Osbaldo Rodriguez, 31, of Hesperia.

It happened at about 12:48 pm, on February 4, 2018, when Rodriguez and his 9-year-old son were out riding bikes on a concrete pathway that runs along the aqueduct in the area of Ranchero Road and 11th Avenue.

The sunny Sunday afternoon turned tragic when the boy lost control of his bicycle and fell into the waters. Rodriguez did what any father would do and jumped in to rescue his son.

Rodriguez began to struggle and went under the water and did not resurface.

At approximately 4:45 pm, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Dive Team recovered the body of Rodriguez, a short distance from where he entered the water.

Officials said the 9-year-old boy was not injured and is recovering.
