Five Arrested in a $150,000 Theft

On August 7, 2013, deputies responded to the 60700 block of Adele Road in Landers reference a grand theft investigation. The investigation found approximately $150,000.00 in precious gold and silver coins had been stolen from the victim’s residence. Robby Sims was identified as the primary suspect in the theft of the coins. An arrest warrant was issued for the arrest of Sims for grand theft.

On August 20, 2013, Sims was identified as the primary suspect in a felony vandalism at the Mojave Market in Flamingo Heights where he caused over $16,000.00 in damages to the property.
On September 12, 2013, a search warrant was served at a residence in the 56000 block of Tracy Blvd in Flamingo Heights. Two additional suspects were identified and over $4,100 in stolen coins were recovered. John Brewer and Jessie McFadden were arrested for receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia. Brewer and McFadden were booked at the Morongo Basin Jail for possession of stolen property with their bail set at $25,000.00.
On September 12, 2013, at approximately 2:00 P.M., the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station received an anonymous call reporting the current location of Robby Sims. Sims had an active warrant for the grand theft for the amount of $100,000.00. Detectives from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station responded to a residence in the 1800 block of Wamego Trail in Flamingo Heights. Sims was located hiding at the residence and fled on foot upon contact. Sims was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit. Sims was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail for his active grand theft warrant and his bail was increased to $500,000.00. Sims was booked on the additional charge of felony vandalism with his bail set at $25,000.00.
Detectives are actively working on leads to recover the additional stolen coins. Anyone with information related to the investigation or who is in possesion of any coins received from the listed suspects is asked to call Detective Erik Smoot for turn over of the property.
