ADELANTO, Calif. (news release) — The filing period to declare as a candidate for the Adelanto City Council Special Election begins Monday, February 12 and lasts until Thursday, March 8, 2017.
“The process to run for City Council is relative easy and simple,” according to City Clerk Cindy Herrera. Anyone interested in filling the vacancy must:
- Have been an Adelanto resident for at least thirty (30) days next preceding the date of the election at which he/she desires to be a candidate for such elective office;
- Must collect a minimum of 20 signatures from registered voters in order to qualify, and
- Pay a $25 filing fee
Candidates who would like to have a candidate statement included in the Voter Information Guide and Sample Ballot booklet must pay a separate fee which the Registrar of Voters won’t know the amount until February 12.
The Special Election was called for by the City Council to fill the vacancy created by the departure of former Mayor Pro Tem Jermaine Wright.
“Residents who plan to vote in the June 5 Primary Election if they are not currently registered to vote must be do so no later Monday, May 21,” said Herrera.
